Great turnout for Quiz 106 with ten teams and 36 quizzers.

This weeks Picture Round was suggested by our ever present team Idiots. "What about celebs and which football team they support" they said so…

This weeks clue on the Quiz Preview was... "You may recognise them but who's scores do they look for?"

There was a twist of course, some of the celebs were a bit more obscure than others and then there were bonus points for naming the famous people pictured.

Whilst our teams contemplated the footy supporters and their respective teams Quiz Master John got us underway with the General Knowledge just after nine.

Most of our teams did incredibly well in the Pics with three, The Hasty Puddings, Normal Service Resumed At The Stadium Of Light and Paralympic Skiing With Michael Schumacher returning 100% marks.

General Knowledge proved a bit more of a challenge, top team with eight was Paralympic Skiing With Michael Schumacher.

Q6 What sort of creature is a margay?

Q7 What was the name of the IBM computer that beat reigning World Chess Champion Gary Kasparov in a six-game series in New York in 1997?

The Music Round was well spread with questions ranging from the sixties to the present.

Q11 What was the 2012 debut single from Carly Rae Jepsen called?

Q15 Julian Fernando Casablancas sings for which band formed in Manhatten, New York which came to fame in the early 2000's?

Chart toppers in the Music round with eight were the bizarrely named Lisa's Violated Jay's Mouth (with what we'll try to find out!)

So going into the break for snacks, beers (and smokes), we had Paralympic Skiing With Michael Schumacher with 38 ahead of Normal Service Resumed At The Stadium Of Light and Lisa's Violated Jay's Mouth on 36.

After the break and the delicious free snacks of Bubble Chips, Onion Rings and real Hula Hoops and Wotsits! We were into what is usually the defining round... Sport.

Q22 Buster Crabbe played Flash Gordon and Tarzan in the 1930s but what Olympic sport did he excel in before he took up acting?

Q28 Michael Thomas famously scored for Arsenal at Anfield in 1989 to make it 2-0 and win the league, but who scored the first goal in that match?

The Gold Medal in Sport this week went to Normal Service Resumed At The Stadium Of Light with an excellent eight.

It was neck and neck going into Music between Normal Service Resumed At The Stadium Of Light and Paralympic Skiing With Michael Schumacher with Lisa's Violated Jay's Mouth with an outside chance on 41.

Q34 On which TV comedy series would you have heard... Computer says No?

Q39 The song First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack appears on the soundtrack of which classic 70’s film?

Normal Service Resumed At The Stadium Of Light and She & Him tied the final round on eight but Paralympic Skiing With Michael Schumacher just managed a seven so it was Normal Service Resumed At The Stadium Of Light who won the Quiz by one solitary point.

Team member Richard took charge of drawing the prize envelope, he went centre and pulled the Food Vouchers! Unlucky Richard but that's great for Quiz 107 as it means we have a £36 rollover to start!

Next up the last part of Quiz Night 106, the Wild Card Question. To enter is just £1 per person and for that you get a little coloured Post-It, this week a nice dayglo orange again, on which to write the answer to a single question that John reads out. The answer is a number or a date and closest to it wins all the money that's been collected in. It's usually a very obscure question so it's more of an inspired guess than something you would actually know, and, as with all of the questions in The Colly Quiz, there is absolutely no Googling.

Chris had been busy getting The Wild Card entries in while the winners drew the envelopes and after the money was counted up John announced there was £24 up for grabs for the closest answer to this question:

We had a question about the character Janice Battersby from Coronation Street in the Film & TV round.

Played by Vicky Entwistle, Janice made a total of 1,549 appearances in Corrie between 1997 and 2011.

The Wild Card Question tonight is… what was the highest number of consecutive Corrie episodes Janice Battersby appeared in?

Quiz Master John gave everyone a couple of minutes to write down their answers before asking for all the orange Post-It's to be placed on his desk. He made sure all the answers were in before announcing there were three contenders, Michael H on 16, Lorna on 25 and Amy on 37. He kept the three in suspense for a couple of seconds before announcing Lorna as the winner! Fantastic for Lorna, one of the 'younger' members of The Colly crowd and Quiz Master John couldn't resist a quip: "She can buy all the fizzy pop and sweets she wants with £24!"

Great Quiz, well done to Richard, Sarah, Susan, Richard C and Phil 'The Mac' collectively  known as team Normal Service Resumed At The Stadium Of Light and congratulations to Lorna for winning the Wild Card, £24 up, not bad for a Monday night out eh?

That was Quiz 106 all was complete, John signed off with his signature Good Night and God Bless. It had been an excellent night as usual with plenty of laughs, thanks to everyone who turned out for Quiz 106 we really appreciate your support.
