After a couple of weeks off for the World Cup and The Hoppings it was great to welcome everyone back for our Monday night Quiz.

There were six teams and 21 eager Quizzers ready to go for the £39 Cash Prize.

The cryptic clue in the Quiz Preview this week was "It's week four of the tournament, we've had the all time team and the flags so what about the shape?" and there were no prizes for guessing it was another World Cup theme.

Another World Cup inspired Picture Round. The Clue on the Preview was "It's week four of the tournament, we've had the all time team, the flags so what about the shape?"

Quiz Master John in vibrant fettle gave our teams a few minutes to contemplate the countries before he started the night off with the usual ten questions on General Knowledge.

As is standard the General Knowledge started off with a couple of easy questions to get our teams settled in. Here's a couple of the 'more challenging' ones:

Q7 What sort of creature is a loon?
Q9 Which scientist wrote A Brief History of Time?

After marking both the Country Shapes and the General Knowledge the teams sheets were returned and John proceeded to read out the answers for the both Rounds.

Most teams cruised the countries with the topically named Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants! and RIP Alfredo scoring full marks. Nation Of Quizlam returning 11 and She & Him + Bump came in third with a ten.

Top marks in General Knowledge this week went to Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants! with a perfect 12. Trailing in their wake with nines were She & Him + Bump, RIP Alfredo and Nation Of Quizlam. A special mention here for the brilliantly named Didgeridon't who limped in last with a four but gained an extra mark for their excellent team name.

Heading into the Music Round at this early stage Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants! were already looking favourite with 24 points. Second we had RIP Alfredo on 21 and third Nation Of Quizlam with 20.

This week we had music questions ranging from singers clothes lines (no not where they hang their washing Richard) to their abbreviated monickers, along with some more regular stuff like this...

Q12 What links the London address of Sherlock Holmes and the title of a smash hit for Gerry Rafferty in 1978?
Q13 What nationality is the singer Duffy?

Top Pop Pickers this week were Awkward Foursome with a chart topping 12. Coming in at number two with tens we had both Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants! and She & Him + Bump (we found out this week that 'bump' is going to be a little boy… fab news). The creatively named Didgeridon't managed third in this round with a nine.

Going into the break for snacks, beers (and smokes for those that don't have bumps) we had Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants! in a commanding lead with 34. Second we had She & Him + Bump and Awkward Foursome with 29 and joint third on 28 were RIP Alfredo and Nation Of Quizlam.

After the usual five minute break and the delicious free snacks, this week consisting of chipsticks, cheesy balls and twiglets, we kicked on to Sport. Here's a couple of sample questions:

Q26 Gottfried Dienst and Tofik Bahramov officiated at which famous 60s event?
Q27 Which tennis star stunner had a cameo appearance in the Jim Carrey movie Me, Myself, and Irene?

Sport must have been easy this week as most teams did reasonably well. Winners of the round were RIP Alfredo with a decent ten (there were a few two pointers, hence not a perfect ten). Second the runaway leaders Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants! with nine and third Nation Of Quizlam with an eight.

So going into the final round Film & TV, Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants! were a massive five points in the lead with 43. RIP Alfredo had 38 and Awkward Foursome along with Nation Of Quizlam were on 36 but it had to be Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants! Quiz to lose. How would our teams manage with questions like these:

Q31 According to Director Mel Brooks what movie helped the US to come to terms with flatulence?
Q36 The seventies TV series Up Pompeii revolved around the unique delivery of which comedian?

RIP Alfredo won the Round with an excellent score of nine but even to draw the night Quiz they needed to be five points in front of the leaders. Second in Film & TV we had She & Him + Bump on eight and joint third were Awkward Foursome and yes, you've guessed it Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants!

So to a round of appreciative applause Richard from the winning team went middle of the three envelopes presented to him by Gemma. He opened it slowly and to everyone's dismay announced "Cash". Richard then enquired how much the Cash Prize was, had a quick conflab with his team mates and told John to put the entire winnings into the pot for Quiz 126… unbelievable, what a generous gesture by the winners Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants!

Next up it was The Wild Card Question. To enter is just £1 per person and for that you get a little coloured Post-It, this week a nice dayglo pink (Post-It's sponsored by Infinite Design), on which to write the answer to a single question that John reads out. The answer is a number or a date and closest to it wins all the money that's been collected in. It's usually a very obscure question so it's more of an inspired guess than something you would actually know, and, as with all of the questions in The Colly Quiz, there is absolutely no Googling. This week there was also a second prize of a bottle of whisky, so it was worth the quid entry fee.

Gemma had been around the bar gathering in The Wild Card entries and she returned to the bar with £19 for the answer closest to this Sport related question:

In the sports round we asked Who was the first unseeded player to win the men’s singles at Wimbledon? And for a bonus point how old was he?

The answer was Boris Becker and he was just 17 years of age.

The Wild Card Question tonight is how many days was Boris from his 18th Birthday when he won the Wimbledon Title?

Quiz Master John, repeated the question as usual but this week there was no real clue unless you knew how many days old Boris was over 17!

After all the tickets were in John double checked that he had all 19 Post-It's then immediately dumped everyone under 100 leaving just four people. Stephen was second, just 23 days out and he got the bottle of whisky, but Sarah S won herself the £19 with an answer that was only nine days out. So to a round of applause Sarah picked up her prize from Gemma at the bar and immediately got the round in! Well done Sarah and cheers.

That was Quiz 124 complete, John signed off with his usual Good Night and God Bless and another entertaining Monday night of banter came to a close. We hope to see you all for Quiz 126 where we start with £39 in the pot thanks to our very generous winners Can You Tell What It Is Yet? It's My Hand Down Your Pants!
