After last weeks bumper turnout of 50 it was a smaller but no less enthusiastic group of 25 Quizzers for Quiz 178 and the seven teams involved took the Cash Prize to a substantial £181.
It was a close run Quiz throughout with four teams in contention going into the final Film & TV Round. Shaken Not Stirred had the advantage with 38. On their tails Rascal Ferrets On Vibes and Spontaneous Wrecks Live At The Bridge Hotel 5th August – Less Embarrassing Than Queens Home Video! with 37 and in with an outside chance The Royal Salute – I Did Nazi That Coming on a decent 35.
Shaken Not Stirred nailed Film & TV with a nine to win the nights Quiz by two points on 47, then team member Sarah went and drew the £181 Cash Prize! The winners got a deserved round of applause and being a generous bunch put £31 back in the pot for Quiz 179.
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round* (The clue this week is "They can be funny but not sitting down"). Following the Pics we then have four themed rounds of General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for the free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
The winners of the nights Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either the cash prize, food vouchers or a case of drinks. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz, the biggest cash prize to date is £317 won by Hand Over The Cash Michaela 25/03/13 in Quiz 63.
After the Quiz we have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 etc). It's one obscure question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken on the night. We had a decent £28 in for the Quiz 178 Wild Card and there were three in the frame for the exact time it took the New Horizons probe to send a signal back to earth. Regular Quizzer (and barman) Jay had 5 hours and 33 minutes then we had Pasty Dave who had two entries, 5 hours and 33 seconds and 5 hours and 23 seconds(?) the latter of which was the closest to our answer. So Dave pocketed the £28 and looking at the picture he must have had divine inspiration with his guesses! Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177.
Come on down and join us for The Colly Quiz, it's always an entertaining night out and as Dave would agree, if you can't win the Quiz it's definitely worth putting on a couple of quid for the Wild Card question!
