Come and join us for Quiz 245 at The Colly on Monday 28th of November... it's always a canny night out but this week we could be playing for an unbelievable £350 plus Cash Prize! It's a record amount of money for our Quiz, so come on down and be part of a historic night.
Another bout of torrential rain kept all but the diehards away but we still had 26 Quizzers in eight Teams braving it through the back end of Angus on the night with four of the Teams in another competitive battle for a chance to draw the Prize Envelope. Spontaneous Wrecks were the winners this time by just a point but they drew the Food Vouchers, so this coming Monday with a half decent* turnout the Cash Prize will be over £350 a new Colly Record!
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the Cash Prize though (yeah right...), there's also the prestige of winning the longest running (and toughest) Quiz Night in Jesmond! Plus our Monday night Quiz is always decent entertainment anyway, whether it be the dodgy questions, the (often libelous) Team names or the Quiz Master's questionable pronunciation... there's always a canny laugh to be had.
Come and join us at The Colly Quiz, it's a great way to give your grey matter a workout out for the week ahead and new teams are always given a warm welcome. In fact why not make a night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including authentic (and a tad spicy!) Thai Curries, the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus a bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue this week is "Official merchandise a must to display rhythmic allegiance"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
The winners of the nights Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either the Cash Prize, Food Vouchers or a case of Beers. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz, the biggest Cash Prize to date is £317 won by Hand Over The Cash Michaela 25/03/13 in Quiz 63 but with a turnout of over 30 people this Monday this record will exceed £350 so bring along a couple of mates and lets see if we can make it a record breaking night to remember!
With a turnout of over 30 people this Monday we could be playing for an unbelievable Cash Prize of over £350... so bring along a couple of clever mates!
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 etc). It's one very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date that nobody in their right mind would know and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
Our Wild Card winner at Quiz 244 was Beattie the Dog who was closest to the actual answer to win it for a second time! Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 245 at The Colly on Monday 28th November, it's always an entertaining night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for a huge £350 plus Cash Prize. Follow us on Twitter to keep up to date.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our quiz night is always hard to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 50+ yet other weeks we might have just 20 odd and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation.
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not) please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of this page, at least we will then be able to gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
