Quiz 215 broke all previous records from over nearly four years... with just 15 people it was unfortunately the lowest ever attendance at our Quiz Night! What's the score folks? We have had 60+ people some nights whilst a regular turnout is over 30 but during the past four weeks we have had a 20, 17, 33 and now just 15.
We can understand Easter, people away visiting family, on holiday and the like but last weeks no show was bizarre. Is it the questions? Are our regular Teams sick of the format, are the questions too hard, too easy... are you bored with the snacks! Or was it simply a coincidence that the last four weeks have had such poor attendances. We do hope it's the latter but if you have any feedback, comments or suggestions on how we could improve Quiz Night please don't be shy, let us now in the comments box below. We won't take the huff but let's try and be positive!
On to this weeks Preview. We had a a total of six Teams and 15 Quizzers (a big thanks for those diehards who did turnout) which took the Cash Prize on offer to a reasonable £85. It's not just about the winning the Cash though, our Quiz is always a bit of a chuckle, even with just 15 Quizzers there were some laughs mainly at the Quizmasters expense last week (apologies for the Major's balls up but my excuse was I was very, very drunk when I verified the question!).
If you fancy a crack at The Colly Quiz we would love to see you, new teams are always welcome and it's a cracking way to start the week. Why not make a night of it and come down for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including authentic (and a tad spicy!) Thai Curries plus the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle! Check out our menu.
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round* (The clue this week is "Hold on... which way round is your Atlas?"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for the free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
The winners of the nights Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either the cash prize, food vouchers or a case of drinks. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz, the biggest cash prize to date is £317 won by Hand Over The Cash Michaela 25/03/13 in Quiz 63.
The winners of last weeks Quiz were, for the second week in a row, our resident improv comedy crew Spontaneous Wrecks who were again cooking on gas all night, even in Sport... and won by a margin of three points in the end. They drew the Food Vouchers on the night though so this week it could be a Cash prize of over £100!
Every week after the Quiz we have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 etc). It's one very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date that nobody in their right mind would know and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
There was a reasonable £17 (considering the number in the bar) in the pot for Quiz 215s Wild Card and it was our Top Barman Chris who was the lucky winner on the night. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 216 at The Colly this Monday, it's always a class night out and this week, we should hopefully be playing for a £100 plus Cash Prize.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
