There was a not bad 24 turned out for Quiz 224 last week which took the Cash Prize over a ton for the first time in ages. It was a well contested night by our seven Teams but the eventual winners excellent Sports score sucker punched the rest of the contenders on the night.
The intriguingly named Three In, One Out won it by four points in the end but drew the Beers so this week, with a decent turnout* there could be a Cash Prize of £150 plus to play for! UPDATE: The rollover has now increased to £152 (it's a long story) so if there's a decent turnout we could be looking at £180 plus Cash Prize!
Yes we know the England game is on so we'll turn up and see what the state of play is on the night is, if there are more Quizzers and England are through we'll do the Quiz, if the game is on a knife edge and we are packed out we'll postpone.
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the Cash though, our Quiz is always a good night out, whether it be the subject of the questions, the (often very dodgy) Team names or the poor pronunciation of the Quiz Master... there's always a decent laugh to be had.
If you fancy a crack at The Colly Quiz it's a great way to start the week and new teams are always given a warm welcome. Whether you're new or a regular you could always make a night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including authentic (and a tad spicy!) Thai Curries, the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus a recent addition, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round* (The clue this week is "Les meilleurs joueurs?"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
The winners of the nights Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either the cash prize, food vouchers or a case of drinks. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz, the biggest cash prize to date is £317 won by Hand Over The Cash Michaela 25/03/13 in Quiz 63.
The winners of last weeks Quiz were Three In, One Out who had been in the top three for the majority of the Quiz until the Sports Round where they aced it with a 100% score. The other contenders couldn't find a way back after that. Winners Three In, One Out picked the Beers though so the £119 Cash Prize rolls over to Quiz 225, which means a half decent turnout and we could be playing for £150 plus this coming Monday. UPDATE: The rollover has now increased to £152 (it's a long story) so if there's a decent turnout we could be looking at £180 plus Cash Prize!
Every week after the Quiz we have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 etc). It's one very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date that nobody in their right mind would know and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
There was a half decent £23 in the pot for Quiz 224s Wild Card but it was still a decent return for a quid stake and it was Sarah S and Jon F who were both two off our answer which meant an exciting Dart Off. Sarah S was triumphant and went home £23 better off after a clinical display of finishing. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 225 at The Colly on Monday 20th of June, it's always a decent night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for a possible £180 plus Cash Prize.
*If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box below.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.

The turnout for our quiz night has been pretty flaky for a few weeks now mainly due to our student Quizzers having exams and such. Hopefully they will return as the exam season draws to a close but as we approach mid summer this could mean even more sparse turnouts as our student teams return home and our regulars go on their hols.
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout please hit the little 'Like' heart at the top left of this page, at least we will then be able to gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
