Quiz 222 which started seriously sparse ended up a right good evening out even though there were just 18 Quizzers. As always it was a closely contested night with three of the five teams in attendance neck and neck going into the final round. The aptly named There’s An Echo In Here… team emerged victorious by just one point but drew the beers so this week (if anyone turns up) there could be a Cash Prize of £90 plus to play for!
It's not just about winning the Cash though, our Quiz is usually a chortle, whether it be the subject of the questions, the (sometimes very dodgy) Team names or the poor pronunciation of the Quiz Master... there's always a good laugh to be had.
Fancy a crack at The Colly Quiz? It's a great way to start the week with new teams always made welcome. Whether you're new or a regular why not make a night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including authentic (and a tad spicy!) Thai Curries, the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus a recent addition, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round* (The clue this week is "Bit difficult to explain but this link will give you a little practice"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
The winners of the nights Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either the cash prize, food vouchers or a case of drinks. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz, the biggest cash prize to date is £317 won by Hand Over The Cash Michaela 25/03/13 in Quiz 63.
The winners of last weeks Quiz were There’s An Echo In Here… who were neck and neck with both Spontaneous Wrecks and Alone throughout the night but won by just one after the final round. Like last weeks team the winners picked the envelope with the Beers so a half decent turnout and we could be playing for £90 plus this coming Monday.
Every week after the Quiz we have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 etc). It's one very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date that nobody in their right mind would know and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
There was a paltry (compared to recent weeks) £17 in the pot for Quiz 222s Wild Card but it was still a decent return for a quid stake and it was apt that another Colly Quiz first timer Malcolm got closest to our answer to win. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 223 at The Colly this Monday, it's always a decent night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for a possible £90 plus Cash Prize.

Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
