There was a canny turnout of 27 for Quiz 223 which made for an entertaining night last week. As always it was a closely contested night with three of our seven teams there or thereabouts going into the Film & TV.
The topically named Mohammad Ali Won The World Title Three Times, Spontaneous Wrecks Have Won The Quiz Ten Times, But He’s Still The Greatest! won it by just two points in the final round but drew the Food Vouchers again so this week, with a decent turnout* there could be a Cash Prize of £120 plus to play for!
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the Cash though, our Quiz is usually a laugh, whether it be the subject of the questions, the (often very dodgy) Team names or the bollocks dropped by the Quiz Master... there's always a good giggle to be had on the night.
Fancy a crack at The Colly Quiz? It's a great way to start the week with new teams always made welcome. Whether you're new or a regular why not make a night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including authentic (and a tad spicy!) Thai Curries, the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus a recent addition, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round* (The clue this week is "Have eu any idea who else is in this mob?"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
The winners of the nights Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either the cash prize, food vouchers or a case of drinks. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz, the biggest cash prize to date is £317 won by Hand Over The Cash Michaela 25/03/13 in Quiz 63.
The winners of last weeks Quiz were Mohammad Ali Won The World Title Three Times, Spontaneous Wrecks Have Won The Quiz Ten Times, But He’s Still The Greatest! who had been neck and neck with Float Like A Butterfly and Sting Like A Bee going into the final round whilst The Hasty Puddings were just three off the pace. The winners picked the Food Vouchers though so the £95 Cash Prize rolls over to Quiz 224, which means a half decent turnout and we could be playing for £120 plus this coming Monday.
Every week after the Quiz we have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 etc). It's one very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date that nobody in their right mind would know and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
There was a paltry (compared to recent weeks) £16 in the pot for Quiz 223s Wild Card but it was still a decent return for a quid stake and it was ironic that it was Peter J a one of the winning Team who drew the Food Vouchers got the Cash. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 224 at The Colly on Monday 9th of June, it's always a canny night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for a possible £120 plus Cash Prize.
*If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box below.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.

The turnout for our quiz night has been pretty flaky for a few weeks now mainly due to our student Quizzers having exams and such. Hopefully they will return as the exam season draws to a close but as we approach mid summer this could mean even more sparse turnouts as our student teams return home and our regulars go on their hols.
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout please hit the little Like heart at the top left of this page, at least we will then be able to gauge if we need one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
