Come and join us for Quiz 237 at The Colly on Monday 19th of September, it's always a canny night out and this week we could be playing for a possible £100 plus Cash Prize.
There was a cracking turnout of 41 Quizzers in ten Teams for last week and this took the Cash Prize to £70. As usual it was a well contested Quiz with five of our ten Teams there or thereabouts until the very last round where it looked a straight contest between regular winners Two Bogans, Two Sweaties, One Paddy and a new challengers Quizzy McQuizface IV: Redemption who have done quite a few Quizzes but never been in contention at this stage before. Our newbie challengers won the final round by a point from leaders Two Bogans, Two Sweaties, One Paddy but they were two points ahead so just sneaked the Quiz on the night by a single point. Aileen from Two Bogans, Two Sweaties, One Paddy then drew the Food Vouchers so with another decent turnout* we could be playing for over £100 this coming Monday.
*See at the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the Cash Prize though, there's the pride of winning the longest running (and hardest) Quiz Night in Jesmond! Plus our Quiz is always a darn good night out anyway, whether it be the subject of the questions, the (often dodgy) Team names or the crap pronunciation by the Quiz Master... there's always a decent chuckle to be had.
Come and join us at The Colly Quiz, it's a great way to give your grey matter a workout out for the week ahead and new teams are always given a warm welcome. You could always make a night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including authentic (and a tad spicy!) Thai Curries, the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus a recent addition, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue this week is "Stone tyler's wright strange jobs"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
The winners of the nights Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either the cash prize, food vouchers or a case of drinks. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz, the biggest Cash Prize to date is £317 won by Hand Over The Cash Michaela 25/03/13 in Quiz 63.
Every week after the Quiz we have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 etc). It's one very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date that nobody in their right mind would know and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
There was a decent £33 in the pot for Quiz 236s Wild Card and for a quid that is a well good return! It was Jake H from Quizzy McQuizface this week and he guessed the actual answer! So he and his Team might have just missed out on winning the Quiz but he was the only one leaving the bar with a pocketful of additional cash. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 237 here at The Colly on Monday 19th of September, it's always a decent night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for a possible £100 or more Cash Prize.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our quiz night has been hard to call for a few weeks now mainly due to our student teams returning home for the summer break and our regulars going off on their hols.
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout or not please hit the little 'Like' heart at the top left of this page, at least we will then be able to gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
