You really don't want to miss Quiz 293 here at The Colly on Monday 13th November. It's always an entertaining night but this week it's also for the biggest Cash Prize we have ever had... an eye watering £500 plus!
There was a decent crowd of 41 turned out for last Monday's Quiz 292 and this took the Cash Prize up to a staggering £463 but the winners on the night for the fifth week running, Spontaneous Wrecks, unbelievably drew the Food Vouchers yet again! So that means this coming Monday with another reasonable* turnout the Cash Prize could be over the £500 mark... and if you needed an added incentive to join us for the Quiz, the big news is our untouchables Spontaneous Wrecks will be missing a couple of Team members this coming Monday!
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a reasonable turnout!
It's not just about winning the Cash Prize though (yeah right... £500?), it's pitting your wits against some of the best brains in Jesmond plus the prestige of winning the longest running (and most difficult) Quiz Night in the area! Even if your team are having an off night and aren't challenging for top spot our Quiz is always a good giggle anyway, whether it be the content of the questions, the (often verging on slanderous) Team names or the Quiz Master's pronunciations... there's always a laugh to be had.
So come on down this Monday and join us at The Colly Quiz, it's a great way to give your grey matter a workout out in preparation for the week ahead and new teams are always made welcome.
Why not make a night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal? We have some delicious food on the menu including authentic (and a tad spicy!) Thai Curries, the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus a bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
Our Quiz starts at 9.00pm (sharp this week!) with a Picture Round** (The clue this week is "National courses on messing about"). Following the Picture Round we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
**If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box at the end of this post.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either a Cash Prize, Food Vouchers or a case of Beers. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a huge £450 won by Rascal Ferrets On Vibes at Quiz 247.
Every week after the Quiz we have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). It's a single, very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
Unfortunately there were so many Teams we ran out of time for a Wild Card at Quiz 292. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 293 at The Colly on Monday 13th November, it's always a canny night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we will be playing for a record Cash Prize of over £500.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our quiz night is always hard to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 50+ yet other weeks, even with a decent Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation (apart from the rain!).
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not) please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of this page, that will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
