Come and join us for Quiz 275 at The Colly on Monday July 10th, it's always an entertaining night out and this week we could be playing for a £70 plus Cash Prize.
There was a smashing turnout of 42 at Quiz 274 last week and this bumped the Cash Prize up to a colossal £334 and Jay from the winners Rascal Ferrets On Busy Vibes only went and drew the envelope containing the Cash Prize. After a wild bit of celebrating the Team divvied their booty out and generously donated £34 back into the kitty, so this coming Monday we aren't quite starting from scratch. Another tremendous turnout* of 40 or so could mean the Cash Prize might be in the region of £70.
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the Cash Prize though (well it might have been an incentive last week), it's also pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond and the prestige of possibly winning the longest running, most challenging Quiz Night in the area! If you aren't vying for top spot our Quiz is always a good laugh anyway, whether it be the content of the questions, the (often very dodgy) Team names or the gaffs by the Quiz Master... there's always a bit of fun to be had.
Get down to The Colly on Monday and join us for the Quiz, it's a great way to give your grey matter a decent workout out in preparation for the week ahead and new teams are always given a warm welcome. Why not make a night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including authentic (and a tad spicy!) Thai Curries, the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus a bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue this week is "Hero shot might not have the Added Bottle Value required"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
**If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box at the end of this post.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain either a Cash Prize, Food Vouchers or a case of Beers. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz. The biggest Cash Prize to date is now £450 won by Rascal Ferrets On Vibes at Quiz 247.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). It's a single, very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
We simply ran out of time for a Wild Card at last weeks Quiz but we will try and put our skates on to squeeze one in for Quiz 275. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 275 at The Colly on Monday 10th July, it's always an entertaining night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we might be playing for around a £70 Cash Prize.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our quiz night is always hard to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 50+ yet other weeks, even with a decent Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation (apart from the rain!).
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not) please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of this page, that will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
