Come on down for Quiz 300 at The Colly on Monday 22nd January where we could be looking at a £250 plus Cash Prize to win!
We had a great crowd of 32 for last Monday's Quiz which took the Cash to £228 so another decent turnout* like that and we will be looking at over £250 to win. It would have been great to celebrate our 300th Quiz with something special like a multimedia round but to be honest there's not enough hours in the day at the minute so we'll just have a standard Quiz!
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
The Colly Quiz is not just about winning the Cash Prize though, it's pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond plus its the prestige of winning the longest running (and hardest) Quiz Night in the area! If you aren't challenging for top spot our Quiz is always a canny night anyway, whether it be the content of the questions, the (often very dodgy) Team names or the dreadful pronunciations by the Quiz Master... there's always a laugh to be had.
So get yourself down this coming Monday and join us at The Colly Quiz, it's a great way to give your grey matter a workout out in preparation for the week ahead and new teams are always made welcome.
You could always make a night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including our authentic (and very hot!) Thai Curries, the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus a current bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue this week is "Remember them right back at the beginning?"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
**If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box at the end of this post.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain a slip of paper saying either Cash Prize, Food Vouchers or Beers. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the next weeks Quiz and is added to the entry money collected from that Quiz... hopefully building up to a decent amount of money over a few weeks until the winners choose the envelope containing the Cash. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293 which surpasses the previous record of £450 won by Rascal Ferrets On Vibes at Quiz 247.
Every week after the Quiz we have usually have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). It's a single, very obscure question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night.
There was a canny £26 in the pot for Quiz 299s Wild Card and for a quid stake that's a decent return! This week it was Cosmo the Dog who's guess was closer to the answer than anyone else, so he got his paws on the cash and quickly exchanged that for a months supply of Bonios... not a bad reward for a decent night out and just a Quid stake. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
Come and join us for Quiz 300 at The Colly on Monday 22nd January, it's always a canny night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for over £250 in cash.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our quiz night is always hard to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a decent Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation (apart from if it's raining it seems!).
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not) please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of this page, that will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
