Come and join us on Monday night for Quiz 311 where with a good crowd we could be playing for a Cash Prize of £70 plus.
Considering the atrocious Easter weather it was a canny turnout of 25 quizzers in 7 teams for Quiz 310 which took the Cash Prize on offer to £43. It was a close affair throughout last week but once again Spontaneous Wrecks triumphed with a cracking final round but things returned to normality – they drew the Food Vouchers! So this coming week if we have a good crowd in* we could be playing for a cash prize of £70 plus.
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the Cash Prize though, it's pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond (currently Spontaneous... can anyone topple these masterminds?) there's also the prestige of winning the longest running (and hardest) Quiz Night in the area! However if you aren't challenging for top spot our Quiz is always a good night anyway, whether it be the content of the questions, the (often very dodgy) Team names or the pronunciation gaffs by the Quiz Master... there's always a laugh to be had.
So get yourself down this coming Monday and join us at The Colly Quiz, it's a great way to give your grey matter a workout out in preparation for the week ahead and new teams are always made welcome.
You could make a proper night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including our authentic Thai Curries (made by a Thai Chef so very spicy!), the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus much more such current bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue this week is "Who's your geography?"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
**If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box at the end of this post.
Here's the rub though... the winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain a slip of paper saying either, Food Vouchers, Beers or Cash Prize, so you have a one in three chance of winning the dosh. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the following weeks Quiz and is added to the entry money collected that night. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). It's a single question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night. No drawing of envelopes! Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
There was £18 in the pot for last weeks Wild Card and for a quid that's a decent prize! For Quiz 310 it was Spontaneous Wrecks team member Peter J who had a guess closer than anyone else to win the cash.
So come and join us for Quiz 311 at The Colly on Monday 9th April, it's always an enjoyable night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we should be playing for over £70 Cash.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd in... and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not), if you are planning on coming down please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
