Come and join us this Bank Holiday Monday for Quiz 315 where with another decent turnout we could be playing for a Cash Prize of over £180.
It was a canny crowd of 31 quizzers in nine teams for Quiz 314 which took the Cash Prize up to £150. It was a decent contest throughout but Amber Gets The Bums Rush Over Wind Rush slowly pulled away from the pack to win convincingly by five points in the end. After their comfortable win they then went and drew the Food Vouchers which means this coming Bank Holiday Monday another half decent turnout* will take the cash prize to over £180.
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the Cash Prize though, it's pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond and there's also the prestige of winning the longest running (and hardest) Quiz Night in the area! However if you aren't challenging for top spot our Quiz is still a very entertaining night out anyway, whether it be the content of the questions, the (usually very dodgy) Team names or the continual pronunciation gaffs by the Quiz Master... there's always a laugh to be had.
So get yourself down this coming Bank Holiday Monday and join us at The Colly Quiz. It's a great way to give your brain a bit of mental aerobics in preparation for the week ahead and new teams are always made very welcome.
You could make a proper night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including our authentic Thai Curries (made by a Thai Chef so very spicy!), the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus much more such current bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue this week is "Saw Doctors, Skunk Anansie, Singing Nun slipped short setting selection"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds on General Knowledge, Music, Sport and Film and TV with a five minute break for free snacks and topping up drinks after round two.
**If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box at the end of this post.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain a slip of paper saying either, Food Vouchers, Beers or Cash Prize, so you have a one in three chance of winning the dosh. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the following weeks Quiz and is added to the entry money collected that night. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). It's a single question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night. No drawing of envelopes! Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
There was a £21 prize for Quiz 314s Wild Card and this week we had two tie for the prize, Robin and Jon. After a quick one dart dart off it was Robin who was victorious winning his second Wild Card in succession.
So come and join us for Quiz 315 at The Colly on Monday 7th May, it's always a canny night out (plus you get some delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for over £180 Cash.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd in... and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not), if you are planning on coming down please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
