Come and join us this coming Bank Holiday Monday for Quiz 318 where with a half decent turnout we could be playing for a Bank Holiday Bonanza Cash Prize of over £230.
There was a a small but perfectly formed crowd of just 19 quizzers in five teams for Quiz 317 which took the cash prize up to £212. It was a competitive night with three of the five teams battling it out until the final round where the Grandad’s Gone Walkabout team just edged Spontaneous Wrecks by a single point. The winners then went and drew the Food Vouchers again! Which means this coming Bank Holiday Monday with a reasonably decent turnout* the cash prize could be in the region of £230 or more.
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the cash though, it's the challenge of pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond plus there's also the prestige of winning the longest running (and hardest) Quiz Night in the area! However if you aren't competing for top spot our Quiz is still a very entertaining night out, whether it be the risque content of the questions, the (sometimes bordering on libelous) team names or the Quiz Masters real pronunciation issues. there's always a laugh to be had.
So come on down this coming Bank Holiday Monday and join us at The Colly Quiz. It's a great way to give your brain a bit of mental aerobics in preparation for the week ahead and new teams are always made welcome.
You could make a proper night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including our authentic Thai Curries (made by a Thai Chef so very spicy!), the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus much more such as the current bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue to the picture round this week is "Favourite cad feature prominently"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds; General Knowledge, Music, Sport plus Film and TV with a five minute break at half time for the free snacks and topping up drinks.
**If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box at the end of this post.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain a slip of paper saying either, Food Vouchers, Beers or Cash Prize, so you have a one in three chance of winning the dosh. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the following weeks Quiz and is added to the entry money collected that night. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). It's a single question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night. No drawing of envelopes! Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
There was an £18 prize for Quiz 317s Wild Card and it was Robin H who was closest so he pocketed the dosh (it's his third win in about five weeks!).
So come and join us for Quiz 318 at The Colly on Monday 28th May, it's always a canny night out (plus you get delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for around £230 Cash.
Quiz Tip: You need to have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in a team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.

The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd in... and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not), if you are planning on coming down please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
