Come and join us Monday 9th July at 9pm for Quiz 324. With a reasonable turnout we will be playing for a Cash Prize of over £360.
There was a scant but keen 17 quizzers in five teams for Quiz 323 which took the cash prize up to a massive £341. It was another well contested Quiz but Rascal Ferrets On Vibes finished the stronger and win the Quiz. The winning team then went and drew the Food Vouchers! Which means this coming Monday with a reasonably decent turnout* the cash prize could be well over £360.
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the cash though (even for this wad of cash?), it's the challenge of pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond plus there's also the prestige of possibly winning the longest running (and most challenging) Quiz Night in the area! However if you aren't competing for top spot our Quiz is still a very entertaining night out, whether it be the risque content of the questions, the (sometimes bordering on libelous) team names or the Quiz Masters pronunciation issues, there's always a laugh to be had.
So get yourself down to The Colly this coming Monday and join us for Quiz 324. It's a great way to give your brain a bit of mental exercise in preparation for the week ahead and new teams are always made welcome.
You could make a proper night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including our authentic Thai Curries (made by a Thai Chef so very spicy!), the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus much more such as a current bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue to the picture round this week is "Famously spent 14 weeks at the top 85/86"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds; General Knowledge, Music, Sport plus Film and TV with a five minute break at half time for the free snacks and topping up drinks.
**If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box at the end of this post.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes that contain a slip of paper specifying either, Food Vouchers, Beers or Cash Prize, so you have a one in three chance of winning the dosh. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the following weeks Quiz and is added to the entry money collected that night. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). It's a single question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night (there's no drawing of envelopes!). Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
There was a £20 prize for Quiz 323s Wild Card and it was Martin & Jess, who have never been to The Colly Quiz before and although they didn't enter they sat through the entire evening listening to the questions and decided at the last minute to chuck a quid on the Wild Card!
So join us for Quiz 324 at The Colly on Monday 9th July, it's always a canny night out (plus you get delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for over £360 Cash.
Quiz Tip: It helps if you have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in your team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.

The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd in... and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not), if you are planning on coming down please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
