Come and join us Monday 16th July at 9pm for Quiz 325. With a reasonable turnout we will be playing for a Cash Prize of over £80.
There was another small but committed 17 quizzers in FOUR teams for Quiz 324 which took the cash prize up to a massive £358. It was another keenly contested Quiz that was so tight it ended in a Dart Off with Rascal Ferrets On Vibes losing narrowly to Get On Your Bike Boris. The winning team then went and drew the Cash! The generous buggers then donated £58 back into the pot which means this coming Monday with a reasonably decent turnout* the cash prize could be around £80... and this week the Prize will go, there will be no drawing of envelopes as The Colly Quiz will be taking a break until the students return in September.
*See the end of the Preview how you can to help us gauge if it's going to be a decent turnout!
It's not just about winning the cash though, it's the challenge of pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond plus there's also the prestige of possibly winning the longest running (and most challenging) Quiz Night in the area! However if you aren't competing for top spot our Quiz is still a very entertaining night out, whether it be the risque content of the questions, the (sometimes bordering on libelous) team names or the Quiz Masters pronunciation issues, there's always a laugh to be had.
So get yourself down to The Colly this coming Monday and join us for Quiz 325. It's a great way to give your brain a bit of mental exercise in preparation for the week ahead and new teams are always made welcome.
You could make a proper night of it and come down early for a pre-Quiz meal... we have some delicious food on the menu including our authentic Thai Curries (made by a Thai Chef so very spicy!), the finest Latin Burgers in Newcastle plus much more such as a current bar favourite, Chilli Cheese Fries!
The Quiz starts at 9.00pm with a Picture Round** (The clue to the picture round this week is "Hearing All The Things She Said, it seemed like a good idea... at the time!"). Following the Pics we then have four rounds; General Knowledge, Music, Sport plus Film and TV with a five minute break at half time for the free snacks and topping up drinks.
**If you would like to give us an idea for an interesting Picture Round feel free, we are always looking for new subjects. Send us an Email, Tweet or add your idea to the comment box at the end of this post.
The winners of the Quiz usually choose from three envelopes that contain a slip of paper specifying either, Food Vouchers, Beers or Cash Prize, so you have a one in three chance of winning the dosh. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the following weeks Quiz and is added to the entry money collected that night. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293. However for Quiz 325 the Winners will get all the Cash in the pot as The Colly Quiz will be taking a break for a few weeks until the students return in September.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question which anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). It's a single question where we are looking for a number or date and the nearest to the actual answer gets the whole pot of money taken for the Wild Card on the night (there's no drawing of envelopes!). Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
There was a £23 prize for Quiz 324s Wild Card and it was Cearon and Stu who had the closest answer to take the dosh and that was after they were just one point off being in the Dart Off finale... not bad for their first Quiz at The Colly!
So join us for Quiz 325 at The Colly on Monday 16th July, it's always a canny night out (plus you get delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for over £80 Cash.
Quiz Tip: It helps if you have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in your team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions and if you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.

The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly, some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd in... and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
To give us an idea if there will be a half decent turnout (or not), if you are planning on coming down please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
