Come and down and join us on Monday night for Quiz 339 where with a half decent crowd we could be playing for a Cash Prize of over £150.
There was an enthusiastic 23 quizzers in seven teams at Quiz 338 which took the Cash Prize to a nice £125. Quiz 338 was a tad more challenging than the last couple of weeks and it was three of the seven that quickly built up a lead. Last Tango, Last Emperor, Last Rites just pipped Spontaneous Wrecks… Oh Hang On it’s Burnley 3 Newcastle 2 by a point in the final round to win for the third week on the spin. The winners then went and drew the Food Vouchers again this week which means with a 30+ turnout this coming Monday we could be playing for well over £150 Cash.
It's not all about winning the cash though, it's the challenge of pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond (and they are). Plus the victors get the prestige of winning the longest running (and most challenging) Quiz Night in Jesmond!
Even if you aren't in the running for top spot our Quiz is still a good night out. The questions are challenging, the team names usually risque (or an unsavoury reference to some recently dead celebrity) and the Quiz Master always tends to drop a rick sometime during the evening (I blame the lager) – anyway its always an entertaining Monday night.
Quiz Drinks Promotion!
Double house spirit and mixer just £2.50.
Bottle of house wine only £8.
Between 7-9pm Every Monday!
You could make a proper night of it and get down early to take advantage of our 7-9pm drinks promotion and maybe treat yourself to a pre-Quiz meal. We have some delicious food on the menu. See our full menu here.
We start the Quiz at 9.00pm with a Picture Round. The clue to the Picture Round theme this week is "Took advantage of all the 3 for £3 at the supermarket then took 12 rather savoury pictures!". We then have four Question rounds; General Knowledge, Music, Sport plus Film and TV.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes. Each envelope contains a slip of paper specifying either, Food Vouchers, Beers or Cash Prize. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the following weeks Quiz adding to the entry money on the night. As long as the cash isn't drawn this keeps rising every week to create a bumper stash of potential winnings. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question. Anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). The Wild Card is a single obscure question with an incomprehensible number or date answer, so it’s a guess. The person nearest to the actual answer gets all the money in for the Wild Card on the night (there's no drawing of envelopes!).
The £20 Wild Card Winner this week was Hazel who managed to guess the exact answer on the night! Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 at Quiz 177!
So please come and join us for Quiz 339 at The Colly on Monday 3rd December. It's always a decent night out (with delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for over £150.
Quiz Tip: It helps if you have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in your team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions. If you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly. Some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason for this fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
So to give us an idea if there will be a decent turnout or not, please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page if you are coming. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
