Join us Monday 17th December for Christmas Quiz where with another good turnout we could be playing for a Cash Prize worth over £220… and the cash will go this week.
There was an excellent crowd of 33 quizzers in eight teams at Quiz 340 which took the Cash Prize to a massive £190. Quiz 340 started off with a number of teams in contention but by the time we got to the Film & TV Round there were just three teams realistically looking like winners. Never Mourn The Buzzcocks were leading Rascal Ferrets by a couple of points with Spontaneous Wrecks five behind. It was Never Mourn The Buzzcocks who once more rose to the occasion to win for the fifth consecutive week. The winners then went and drew the Food Vouchers again! This means with a 30+ turnout this coming Monday we could be playing for over £220 plus Cash.
It's not just about winning the cash though, it's the challenge of pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond (and they are, as five consecutive wins proves). Plus the winners get the prestige of winning the longest running (and most challenging) Quiz Night in Jesmond!
Even if you aren't in the running for top spot our Quiz is still a canny night out, especially this week. The questions are challenging, the team names usually risque (or an unsavoury reference to some recently dead celebrity) and the Quiz Master always tends to drop a rick sometime during the evening (last weeks was an absolute corker) – anyway its always an enjoyable Monday night. Plus this week, with it being our Christmas Quiz we may well have a few surprise, prizes!
Quiz Drinks Promotion!
Double house spirit and mixer just £2.50.
Bottle of house wine only £8.
Between 7-9pm Every Monday!
You could make a real night of it and get down early to take advantage of our 7-9pm drinks promotion and maybe treat yourself to a pre-Quiz meal. We have some delicious food on the menu. See our full menu here.
We start the Quiz at 9.00pm with a Picture Round. The clue to the Picture Round theme this week is "Twelve random famous people in Santa costumes (yeah, not much of a clue!)". We then usually have four Question rounds; General Knowledge, Music, Sport plus Film and TV but this week with it being Christmas, I’m working on a possible Multimedia Round which could replace the Sports Round… keep up with the latest news on on Twitter and Facebook.
The winners of the Quiz usually choose from three envelopes but this week the winners will definitely get the Cash Prize! We also working on a possible second and third prize, again keep up with the latest news on Twitter and Facebook.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question. Anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). The Wild Card is a single obscure question with an incomprehensible number or date answer, so it’s a guess. The person nearest to the actual answer gets all the money in for the Wild Card on the night (there's no drawing of envelopes!).
The £17 Wild Card Winner this week was Jay who just pipped Jon F to the prize… it was so close we needed a calculator! Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 at Quiz 177!
We hope you’ll come and join us for our Christmas Quiz here at The Colly on Monday 17th December. As always it's always a decent night out (with delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for over £220 with additional festive prizes.
Quiz Tip: It helps if you have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in your team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions. If you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly. Some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason for this fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
So to give us an idea if there will be a decent turnout or not, please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page if you are coming. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
