We’re back on Monday with our first Quiz of the year!
Come down and join us for Quiz 342 where with a half decent turnout we might be playing for a Cash Prize of £50 plus!
There was a festively fueled crew of 31 quizzers in eight teams at Quiz 341 our Christmas special which took the Cash Prize to a muckle £220. It was a great night of Crimbo Quizzing with Les Gilets Jaunes out of the traps very quickly. They didn’t drop many points and none of our other teams could get close to them. It was no surprise then that they went on to win by a handsome five points. There was no drawing of envelopes as we had split the Cash Up into a first and second prize for our Christmas special so Les Gilets Jaunes picked up the first prize of £150 cash. Second prize of £40 cash went to one of our runners up on the night Rascal Ferrets On Vibes. They won the toss up with Have Yourselves A Very Merry Spontaneous Wrecksmas who got the third prize of a case of beers.
It's not just about winning the Quiz though, it's the challenge of pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond (currently Les Gilets Jaunes) . The victors also get the prestige of winning the longest running (and most challenging) Quiz Night in Jesmond!
Even if you aren't in the running for top spot our Quiz is still an entertaining night out. The questions are fascinating, the team names risque and the banter amusing – or is that called heckling? – anyway its always an canny evening.
New Drinks Promotion!
Double house spirit and mixer just £2.50.
Bottle of house wine only £8.
Between 7-9pm on Quiz Night
You could make a proper night of it and get down early to take advantage of the 7-9pm drinks promotion and maybe treat yourself to a pre-Quiz meal. We have some delicious food on the menu. See our full menu here.
We start the Quiz at 9.00pm with a Picture Round. The clue to the picture round this week is "Over the last year some still reported it came from North, East, West and South". We then have four rounds; General Knowledge, Music, Sport plus Film and TV.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes. Each envelope contains a slip of paper specifying either, Food Vouchers, Beers or Cash Prize. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the following weeks Quiz adding to the entry money on the night. As long as the cash isn't drawn this keeps rising every week to create a bumper stash of potential winnings. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293.
Every week after the Quiz we usually have a Wild Card Question. Anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). The Wild Card is a single obscure question with an incomprehensible number or date answer, so it’s a guess. The person nearest to the actual answer gets all the money in for the Wild Card on the night (there's no drawing of envelopes!).
It was top Colly barman Jay who pocketed the £25 Festive Wild Card at the Christmas Special. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
We hope you’ll join us for Quiz 342 at The Colly on Monday 7th January. It's always an decent night out (plus you get delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for a £50 ish Cash Prize.
Quiz Tip: It helps if you have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in your team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions. If you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly. Some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason for this fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
So to give us an idea if there will be a decent turnout or not, please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page if you are coming. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
