Come and down join us on Monday night for Quiz 343 where with a half decent turnout we could be playing for a Cash Prize of nearly £80.
There was a enthusiastic crowd of 19 quizzers in five teams at Quiz 342, our first Quiz of 2019. This took our Cash Prize to a not quite life changing £50. It was a tightly contested night with three of the five teams in with a chance. It was Rascal Ferrets who shook off the festive hangovers to emerge victorious at the end by just one point but they then went and drew the Food Vouchers. This means with a 20+ turnout this coming Monday we could be playing for near £80 in Cash.
Not that it’s just about winning the cash though, there’s also the challenge of pitting your wits against the best brains in Jesmond (and they are). Plus the victors get the prestige of winning the longest running (and most challenging) Quiz Night in Jesmond!
Even if you aren't in the running for top spot our Quiz is still a good night out. The questions are entertaining, the team names usually risque (or an unsavoury reference to some recently dead celebrity) and the Quiz Master always tends to drop a gaff sometime during the evening (I blame the lager) – anyway its always a topper night.
New Drinks Promotion!
Double house spirit and mixer just £2.50.
Bottle of house wine only £8.
Between 7-9pm on Mondays!
You could make a proper night of it and get down early to take advantage of our 7-9pm drinks promotion and treat yourself to a pre-Quiz meal. We have some delicious food on the menu. See our full menu here.
We start the Quiz at 9.00pm with a Picture Round. The clue to the Picture Round theme this week is "Tasteful tunes". We then have four Question rounds; General Knowledge, Music, Sport plus Film and TV.
The winners of the Quiz choose from three envelopes. Each envelope contains a slip of paper specifying either, Food Vouchers, Beers or Cash Prize. If the cash isn't drawn it rolls over to the following weeks Quiz adding to the entry money on the night. As long as the cash isn't drawn this keeps rising every week to create a bumper stash of potential winnings. The biggest Cash Prize to date is a whopping £500 won by I Think You’ll Find That Monkeys Mine at Quiz 293.
Every week after the Quiz we generally have a Wild Card Question. Anyone in the bar can join in for a quid (or if you want two goes it's £2, three £3 and so on). The Wild Card is a single question with an incomprehensible number or date answer, so it’s basically a guess. The person nearest to the actual answer gets all the money in for the Wild Card on the night (there's no drawing of envelopes!).
The £15 Wild Card Winner this week was the mysterious Dom Estos. Our biggest Wild Card winner to date is Mike H who scored for a massive £61 in Quiz 177!
So come and join us for Quiz 343 at The Colly on Monday 14th January. It's always an decent night out (with delicious free half-time snacks) and this week we could be playing for an £80 ish Cash Prize.
Quiz Tip: It helps if you have a broad range of ages as well as knowledge in your team for The Colly Quiz. So if you are youngish try to get an older friend to join your team for the 70s and 80s questions. If you are on the wrong side of 40 try and get your kids or younger work colleagues to join you for the Music, TV and Films from the last 10 years.
Give The Preview A Like!
The turnout for our Quiz Night is always difficult to call at The Colly. Some weeks it can be 40+ yet other weeks, even with a whopping Cash Prize, we might have just 20 odd. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason for this fluctuation (apart from if it's raining so it seems!).
So to give us an idea if there will be a decent turnout or not, please click the little 'Like' heart at the top of the page if you are coming. This will help us gauge if we should have one or two bar staff and if we need to print out five Picture Rounds and Answer Sheets or fifteen! Much appreciated.
